Lucy had a great day! She loved opening all her presents and then riding around on her bike all afternoon. She's now asking to take the training wheels off so she can go faster.

The kids just adore Madi. They all want to hold her all the time. The kids love babies and are even talking about the next one. Talking to a mom with a 12 day old baby about the next one-not the way to get on her good side.

Rachel did NOT want to be in the picture. There's no reasoning with a 2 year old.

The only way I could get Rachel in the picture was if she sat on Gordon.

Lucy loves life and says some of the funniest things. Last night she prayed that my belly would get smaller. I haven't decided if she's trying to be helpful and sweet or if my post baby belly is truly bothering her.

In spite of not blogging, we have continued with Summer Camps! Week 3 was wild animals where the kids were introduced to shrinky dinks! Week 4 was patriotic since it was the 4th of July. Week 5 was ocean animals which included a couple of hours on the beach and making little ocean dioramas.

We had a great time in Charleston and Vince is all done with his 1st board exam!! He started rotations this past week. He is doing internal medicine for the next 7 weeks and is working with a great doctor right now.

I apologize for the lack of pictures. Unfortunately we can't locate our camera after unpacking from Charleston. It is very frustrating. You'll just have to take my word for it that I have cute pictures of the kids/family from Charleston, summer camps, and the beach!

Week 2 of Summer Camp

This week was "Space Camp". We started off learning about space suits and the space shuttle. Then we built a moon habitat (NASA is designing a moon habitat for when they go back to the moon). The kids colored space shuttles and "flew" to the moon habitat where we learned about our Solar System and the planets that orbit the sun. After the moon habitat, we made space collages and astronaut pudding. The kids had fun eating pudding without spoons. Then they each colored an alien, put them in a flying saucer and had a contest to see who could throw it to the moon habitat. It was quite the afternoon!

Call's Summer Camp

Last week started the "Call's Summer Camp". We kicked off summer camp with "Wet 'n' Wild". We set up some crazy sprinklers by our little pool, threw in some sand and water toys and let the kids go at it. They really enjoyed the squirt guns and Gordon and Leah had a contest to see who could get the dragonflies that were circling the pool. And of course we had to have popsicles for a snack in the pool.

A friend gave us this huge box and Vince built a little house for the kids. The kids loved it and played in it for 2 days straight. He even put our little kitchen in it. After playing in it and coloring ALL of it (inside and out) they drove their strollers around it and pretended it was a drive thru restaurant. Fries and soda were the hot ticket items (as they do not get these very often). Gordon even made it a chinese restaurant. He studied China in school the last few weeks and has been obsessed with everything Chinese lately.

Last night the kids got to dress up like pirates and go on a boat ride. A photographer friend of ours was asked to do a photo shoot for a magazine for this boat company and so he invited us and a few other friends to have our kids be the "models". The kids had a great time! Here are a few pictures that I was able to get between chasing Rachel around the boat.

Lucy's 3rd birthday was a great day. Vince invited his classmates to come over to help celebrate. We had homemade pizza-we could have opened our own pizza restaurant with how much we made-but everyone had fun (especially the birthday girl).

Rachel just wanted the boxes after the presents were opened.

Her balloon cake. We made 3 since she was 3 and the girls helped me with the pink one. I asked her what color balloons she wanted and she asked for pink, purple and brown. The pink and purple were my first attempt at fondant. The brown one was a layer cake.

This was the birthday nap before the big celebration. Which I'm glad they took because they were up late!

During Christmas break, we took the kids to this indoor playground full of inflatables for the kids to jump on and slide down. Adults are allowed to be on them with their kids (which made Vince's day)! The kids had a great time!

We had a great Thanksgiving Day with family in Charleston. It was a beautiful day that we were able to enjoy outside, great food made by my wonderful sister-in-law(and possible her husband:), and fun visiting with family. The kids had so much fun with their cousins. They are still talking about them.

Rachel discovered connect four. It was hilarious to watch because her tongue came out as she was concentrating to get the pieces in and the closer she got to getting it in, the farther her tongue would hang out.

We've had a great weekend. Friday night we went to the beach and relaxed (including Vince!). Saturday the kids got to watch The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown while eating lunch and then Saturday night was the ward party and trunk or treat. A couple in our ward run a boat tour service and was nice enough to allow the ward to have the party on the boat while enjoying the water. We have a small ward so the trunk or treat didn't last too long, but was just right for our kids:)

Here are just a few random pictures that I didn't post last time because I was too tired:)

Leah and Lucy painting. Now when they were finished Leah had one little smudge of paint on her "apron". Lucy could be related to Pigpen from Charlie Brown. She had paint EVERYWHERE-all over her hands and face, the apron, and the paper protecting the table.

"Lucy, you have some 'xplainin' to do". There is never a dull moment with Lucy around. She was sharing a snack with Rachel when I caught her trying to stuff a cheerio up her nose (Lucy's not Rachel's). I stopped her, but then she stated sneezing like crazy. So I asked her if she put one up her nose and of course she said yes. So I asked Vince to look up her nose with his doctor's light (it is pretty handy to have him around with little kids) and he saw a cheerio up there. He asked why she did it and she just said "cause I like it". He was able to remove half of the cheerio before she sniffed the other half up to far to reach.

It's Birthday Time

September 7 is so much fun around our house. Gordon and Leah had a great birthday this year. Vince's friend from school has a daughter who shares the same birthday and is the same age as Leah. We all celebrated together.

Here is Gordon's new body board. He couldn't wait to get to the beach to try it out.

Leah got a new easel (including markers, paints, chalk, and crayons) to draw, paint, and color on.

Gordon and Leah's cousin, Julius, has a birthday the day after theirs and they came down from Atlanta to celebrate at the beach with us. We had a great time with them and wished they could have stayed longer.

After the beautiful day at the beach, we all went over to Vince's classmates house to celebrate everyone's birthday with all of Vince's classmates. We had good food, lots of cake, and fun visiting-none of his classmates wanted to study that weekend.

Vince is back in full swing of medical school. I think we are adjusted to the new place and schedule and of course the humidity. Here is what we've been up to:

Leah and Lucy have enjoyed just having girls at home. I think I need to invest in gallon size containers of nail polish and remover to keep up with the demand. They do love to play together.

This is Gordon's first day of school. His teacher said he was so excited, it almost scared her. That's my handsome little 1st grader.

I think it might be time to retire the Big Wheel. It's 4 years old, been through 3 moves and 3 kids, but it has held up pretty well considering.

For anyone who is confused... we switched. We are in South Carolina, not Tucson. The last couple of months of medical school were great. Summer vacation has been great. Spending time with my family has been amazing!

5 days of driving from Utah to South Carolina. I did it all.

Last Weekend

So last weekend was busy, but lots of fun. Saturday night was SOMA's Prom (Vince's school). It was fun to get all dressed up and go out with Vince to a nice country club. They did a great job and I even got Vince to dance with me. Then Sunday was Mother's Day and can I just say that I really do love being a mom. Gordon wrote me the sweetest card without any prompt or help. It comes complete with an anatomically correct illustration, thanks to Vince's anatomy book. Monday night Vince's class had a Rodeo BBQ for the students and their families. Vince enjoys seeing his classmates outside of class and it's always fun for me to talk to other spouses of med students.

Here are a few pictures from Christmas Eve. I realized a few days after Christmas that we only took video on Christmas day and no pictures-oops. But we do have all the kids in their christmas jammies. Here are a few of Rachel when she was blessed last week. It was a very nice day and a beautiful blessing for our sweet baby. She has been so good and laid back (so far). I'm not holding my breath that this will continue once she is influenced by older siblings. So I will just enjoy this time that she is sweet and immobile. It was a nice 2 week break with Vince home. The kids really enjoyed seeing and playing with their dad for more than a few minutes a day. I can't wait for his 6 week break this summer. It might make the 120 degree heat more bearable.

It was actually cool enough to take the kids to this Riparian Reserve one morning. Of course we did go at 8:30 in the morning for it to be cool enough. The kids had a lot of fun running around, playing and watching the ducks.

The day before Halloween we were able to pull out some long-sleeve shirts and long pants. It was wonderful. It felt like fall....for a day!

The past few weeks.....

So here is what has been happening the past few weeks.

1. We've gotten set up in our new apartment.

2. Lucy thinks she's 2 and has totally outgrown any shyness she had.

3. Vince is LOVING school and even bought an Osteopathic table to practice.

4. Leah is trying to give up naps.

5. Gordon loves school-especially math and history.

6. Lyndsay has 8 weeks left until D-day and hasn't done much to prepare.

Here are some pictures of the Phoenix Children's Museum. The kids and I went last Friday by ourselves (Vince had a final). The kids absolutely loved it. They had a lot of fun running around and trying all of the different stuff they had there. It's pretty exciting to be able to go to a museum and run around and play with everything. It was my first trip to downtown Phoenix and we only had to take 3 different freeways to get there. It's been awhile since I've lived in a big city, but we all survived and found it without too much difficulty.

Well we are in a our new apartment. Most of the unpacking is done-we're just waiting for a few pieces of furniture to finish. We love that it is only a mile from school so we get to see Vince now for brief visits between classes and studying. He is really enjoying school! I love to see him so excited about what he is learning. We should find out next month where we will spend the next three years so we'll keep you posted.

The kids are are having fun in a new place although I know they miss grandma and grandpa. The last time we rode somewhere with grandma, Gordon asked me for something and I said no so Leah said "Gordon just ask grandma"! Oh how quickly they learn. Lucy talks more everyday and we love hearing her new words along with her facial expressions. We are just enjoying life and getting ready for a new baby-coming in December!

The girls are dressed with their hair done (obviously this was first thing in the morning because by 10:00am this is NOT what they look like any more).

Gordon got a new camel back pack for his birthday so Vince took him hiking to test it out. They had a great time. Gordon can't wait to go camping in the desert.

While the boys were out hiking, the girls got their toenails painted! Leah loved it and now has purple nail polish on her toes and fingers.

A couple of weeks ago I asked the kids what kind of cake they wanted for their birthday and both of them said a train cake. So this is the result. They each got their own train filled with candy and cookies.

The morning after his birthday, Gordon told me that next year he wants a car cake for his birthday. Ohhh what have I started!

Bike Ride

So my bike ride yesterday was pretty uneventful, except that I didn't finish. A car drove by really close to me and I rode into the ditch and flipped. I went to the ER to get checked out because I couldn't move my legs and my right elbow was in bad shape too. Some nice folks gave me a ride to the hospital to get checked out and it turns out I just have major bruising, but nothing broken and nothing damaged too bad. I thought it was kind of a neat experience being at the ER all day, but Lyndsay didn't share my enthusiasm. The optimism also could have been side effects of the pain meds.

First Week of Medical School

On the way to the white coat ceremony, Leah pipes up and says "No grass, just dirt." If you've been to Phoenix or southern Arizona, you would know how true that is!

While in school the first week, Lyndsay and the kids are finding ways to enjoy themselves here at Grandma and Grandpa Howe's house.

First week of school was an orientation / field trip week. We still had some group presentations to do and a couple of papers to write but nothing too major. Monday was also the White Coat ceremony and I have a couple of pictures about that too. This week is the first real week. I even had orientation stuff on Saturday from 8am to 3pm. Part of our field trip was to visit the Grand Canyon - South Rim, but I forgot my camera at the hotel. So I'm awaiting some photos from some classmates. We'll see how far I can get with that. Saturday, I received all of my medical equipment - stethoscope, tuning forks, reflex hammer, etc. I don't even know the name of the other tools yet! I'm excited to get going this week!

So I participated in the April 2009 Graduation. I am now going to start attending class on Wednesday for 8 more weeks to finish up the General Education requirements that I have left. (Humanities 201, 202, and Philosophy 110). So, by the time my birthday comes around, I'll have received a degree, not just have graduated.

Things are just trucking along at our house. Vince is working hard at school, but will graduate in April!!! We are enjoying the journey. They love to spend time with dad because he does stuff that mom won't do (like climb up on our fireplace and climb the outside of the stairs). We'll keep you posted as to Medical School and where our journey takes us next.

Lulu's taken an interest in puzzles lately.

Happy Halloween! Gordon got to be a "grandpa cookie" for Halloween. He thought it was great.

The kids had a great time and everyone loved the Oreo costume. A few asked if he was double stuffed or if he needed a glass of milk. Leah loved being a ballerina. After I got her all ready (painting her fingernails, a little bit of sparkly makeup and in glitter in her hair), she pranced around the house and held her bag on one arm and held her other arm out walking around just grinning. She is quite the little princess. Lucy just chilled the whole evening in the stroller. She loves to be outside!!! It sprinkled off and on the whole time we were out, but at least it didn't pour. One of our neighbors set up a screen in front of his garage with chairs to watch a movie while he grilled hot dogs. He also had donuts and hot chocolate for all the parents out with their kids. We had a fun evening!

Well we have a few stories about Gordon to share. Last week Gordon and I were playing in the morning because he wanted to go to school. So he'd put on his backpack and shoes and go out the basement door and then walk around the backyard and come in the back door. We did this several times and he thought it was great. Well after lunch I put Leah down for a nap and Lucy was just crawling around when Gordon put on his backpack and shoes and said "Bye mom I'm going to school" and I said "Have a good day, I love you". Well after a couple of minutes he didn't come back in the house. So I step out on the back porch and there is no sign of Gordon. I put on my shoes and ran around our house and I couldn't find him. We live a block from an elementary school and it was right when the kindergartens were changing. So I ran to the crossing guard by our house and asked him if he'd seen Gordon. He said no and that he'd been there about 15 minutes. Right then a neighbor was driving by and rolled down her window and asked if I was looking for Gordon. She had seen him talking to the other crossing guard way down the street. So I ran down to her and asked her about Gordon and she had taken him to the house across the street from the school (who happened to be the primary president). So I ran over there and found him. She had been calling my house. So then Gordon and I ran back to our house because Lucy was still there just crawling around (luckily Leah was asleep). So that was our adventure with Gordon going to school.

Here are just a few pictures. Lucy is loving crawling everywhere and exploring her world. She is such a happy smiley baby. I love it!

One more quick story about Gordon. Last Friday was our ward chili/pie cook off at church. It was a lot of fun and we had over 200 people come so that was great. Well while I was helping clean up (keep in mind there were still many people there) Gordon walks into the gym with his pants and underwear down around his ankles. He had pooped and wanted help. Many moms came up to me just laughing (as only a mom that understands can) after I took care of him and came back to help finish cleaning up. So some people got dinner and a show that night. The same neighbor that told me where Gordon was when he went to school asked if I was writing all of these experience down because "Gordon is one funny kid". I do write all of the "special" experiences I have as a mom in a book so that my kids will one day know what they used to do and say. I love Gordon so much. He is a great boy and I am so glad that I get to be his mom and go through life with him.

Wow, we are slackers! Actually, I went back to school so I just haven't had time. Gordon now rides a bike without training wheels! Lucy moves all over the place now and she has a funny "crawl." Check out the video to see.

History Repeats Itself

Lucy was on the floor playing when an older sibling, who shall remain nameless, but someone who loves her sister to death, wanted to roll her over and Lucy did not want to go. So we spent what was supposed to be a quiet evening at home at the doctor's office. Luckily, nothing showed up on the x-ray as broken or out of place. The doctor thinks a ligament was stretched at the elbow. She screams whenever she tries to bend her arm, but she did smile right after we took this picture so we'll take that as a good sign. The doctor wanted to try and keep it stabilized and that was the smallest sling they had.

Our ward had a big breakfast and carnival on the fourth. We told Gordon that we were going to a party at the church and he looked at us and said "A party for Gordon!" Not exactly but you'll have fun anyway.

They had a huge bouncing thing for the kids to jump it. Gordon spent a good 2-3 hours jumping while Leah jumped for about 10 minutes. She fell out of it and decided that eating candy was less dangerous.

That night our neighbors invited us over to watch all of the fireworks they bought to celebrate. It was actually quite a show. Gordon loved watching everything explode and was dying to light a few himself. We had a fun 4th of July as evidenced by 3 very tired kids.

Well March came in like a lion. We had a very strong wind and snowstorm last night, although most of the snow from last night is now melted off. Here's some pics of the kids from the last 2 weeks.

Here's our baby. She was born at 9:29am, 7 lbs and 4 oz., 18.5 inches long. Mother is doing great and is getting lots of compliments from the nurses for how well she's doing.

We had fun today with the kids. My office was closed today so I got to stay home. We made a ginger bread house which was a ton of fun with the little guys. It snowed all afternoon and evening which made for a perfect Christmas Eve. It's now 11:30pm and Lyndsay and I have finished all the preparations for tomorrow morning. Christmas is a lot of work (THANKS A LOT SANTA!). In fact, Santa truly does have lots of elves - all of the parents all around the world.
